IchiRyu Ramen House Brings Japan’s Showa-Era Nostalgia to JVC

Inspired by Japan’s Showa era, IchiRyu’s new JVC branch brings decades past to life through cassette tapes, vintage television references, and the iconic red-wired telephone.
Award-winning UAE homegrown ramen brand IchiRyu Ramen House takes diners on a trip through time at its new Jumeirah Village Circle (JVC) branch, drawing inspiration from the everyday sights of Japan’s Showa era.
Located at Westview Terrace, the restaurant opened to the public on October 9, becoming the brand’s third UAE location and fourth overall. Known for its carefully curated interiors, IchiRyu extends its attention to Japanese culture beyond the menu and into the dining space.
While its Wasl branch draws inspiration from Tokyo and its Dubai Marina restaurant reflects Kyoto, the JVC location captures the nostalgic charm of Showa-era Japan through cassette tapes, vintage television references, and its iconic red-wired telephone.
The Showa era saw the growth of Japan’s modern pop culture, from manga and anime to the widespread adoption of televisions and portable music players. The branch draws on the nostalgia associated with the era’s later decades, which continue to inspire Japanese retro design.
What’s on the menu
With 14 ramen options, the JVC branch gives diners plenty to explore, including the newly introduced Shouyu Ramen, available with chicken or Black Angus beef in a savory soy sauce-based broth.
Executive Chef Touru De Guzman, who oversees the development of IchiRyu’s signature broths, introduced the dish at the launch, where chefs prepared it alongside signature bowls in the restaurant’s open-kitchen concept.
The selection includes IchiRyu’s four flagship bowls, Aka, Shiro, Kuro and Midori, while the brand’s wider range features Yasai, Ryu Miso and Kare. Beyond ramen, the menu offers small bites, rice bowls, maki rolls, salads, desserts and drinks.
The JVC branch follows IchiRyu’s expansion into Chichibu, Saitama, in June 2026, its first location in Japan. IchiRyu is also known for introducing Japanese-style solo dining to the UAE through its Bocchi Seki concept. Its semi-private booths offer guests a discreet setting to enjoy their meals with fewer distractions and minimal interaction.
